Jared Boot-Haurey Presents: Asexuality

Friday, August 15th, 2025 | 11am – 12 pm

This free 1-hour webinar provides mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver culturally competent and affirmative care to asexual clients. Drawing on the latest psychological literature, the course explores the unique experiences, challenges, and strengths of individuals who identify as asexual, including their diverse romantic orientations and relationships. Participants will gain insight into common misconceptions and biases that contribute to the pathologization of asexuality, as well as strategies to avoid harm and foster trust in therapeutic relationships.

The course covers key topics such as the minority stress model as applied to asexual individuals, the impact of intersecting identities, and the skills to provide inclusive clinical assessment, diagnosis, and intervention. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive therapeutic environment that recognizes and validates the experiences of asexual individuals, empowering them to thrive. This training is ideal for therapists committed to advancing their cultural competency in working with diverse populations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe and explain three unique psychological experiences and needs of asexual individuals, including the impact of intersecting identities and the minority stress model, as they relate to effective and affirmative therapeutic practices.
  2. Identify two evidence-based strategies to avoid pathologizing asexuality and to foster trust and inclusivity in therapeutic relationships by recognizing and addressing common biases and misconceptions about asexuality.
  3. Identify systemic barriers and cultural factors affecting access to mental health care for asexual clients, and develop actionable solutions to improve equity and support in clinical practice.
